Our growing firm has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transportation/Transit Project Manager. This position will be preferably based out of our Burnsville office location but we are flexible on the home office being Ramsey, Maplewood or Chaska, Minnesota.

The qualified Senior Transportation Project Manager, working with a team of Engineers, Planners and Technicians, is responsible for the overall planning, development and completion of transportation projects in a profitable manner. Responsible for client contact and business development activities in designated areas. Will provide support to transportation and municipal projects in transportation related studies and designs, including scheduling and execution of preliminary and final highway design projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the work of other engineers and technicians; plans and organizes project assignments
  • Coordination of internal and external specialized work teams including municipal utilities, water resources, surveying and structural on complex county and state highway projects
  • Review and/or prepare preliminary reports and feasibility studies
  • Develop, coordinate and review the final design and preparation of plans and specifications
  • Provides technical advice regarding design, construction or modification and repairs to clients, contractors and other staff members
  • Responsible for the management planning, scheduling and performance of multiple engineering projects and personnel
  • Read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and reports
  • Perform effective technical writing and correspondence
  • Perform business development activities (client needs, research, proposals, etc.)
  • Coordinate construction administration
  • Apply broad understanding of civil engineering and other fields to reach innovative and interdependent solutions
  • Travel periodically to work sites and other project related locations

Education and Experience:

  • The selected candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Eight (8) years of progressive traffic engineering experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of MN

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven knowledge and skills in Microstation CAD and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience preparing highway design
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and guidelines including Roadway Functional Classification, Mn/DOT Road Design Manual and Mn/DOT State Aid Requirements.
  • Ability to work within a team atmosphere
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills
  • Supervisory and staff mentoring experience
  • Business development experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including, but not limited to
    • Verbal and written communication skills
    • Active listening and negotiation skills
    • Ability to understanding others’ perspectives
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Minimal travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Transportation Engineering or other related field
  • Working knowledge of Industry Standards and Guidelines including Mn/DOT Road Design Manual, and State and Federal Aid
  • Ability to find and apply new technologies to advance quality and efficiency
  • Knowledge of traffic operations theory and practice
