We have an exciting new opportunity for a Civil Engineer Technician to join our team. The Civil Engineer Technician is responsible for performing engineering project design and drafting from working sketches and field data, under direct supervision of an engineer or senior technician. Duties include routine testing and construction observation on municipal projects.

The Civil Engineer Technician must possess a high capacity for self-motivation and be able to apply technical knowledge to a variety of projects. In addition, must be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and staff from various agencies.

Primary Duties

  • Performing routine engineering computations
  • Researching engineer records
  • Operating AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software to assist with preliminary design of municipal projects and construction plans and specifications.
  • Construction observation, which may include but are not limited to, recording quantities and progress of construction activities, providing oversight of materials testing
  • Traveling to work sites and other project related locations,
  • Interacting with contractors, sub-contractors, city staff and residents, fielding questions, and providing information on projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or related field,  from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Three (3) years of progressive experience as an engineer technician
  • Additional, related experience may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirement
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and their own transportation
  • Must have the ability to actively listen to others for understanding of their needs and situations; ability to read, speak and write English clearly is required

Preferred skills

  • Experience in complex plan production
  • Experience in construction contract administration
  • Experience working with city government and municipal infrastructure
  • Construction staking or field survey experience
  • Design experience or training with AutoDesk software.
