As a Design Landscape Architect (LA-in-training) you will be on a progressive learning track toward professional licensure, performing assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities in the field of landscape architecture. As a Design LA you will be part of our company’s landscape architecture service area and support engineers and planners throughout the firm with any landscape design needs from concept to completion. You will perform design computations, CAD layout and design, research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies. In addition, you will assist with project design and preparation of plans and specifications, prepare cost and quantity take-off estimates, travel periodically to work sites and other project related locations, perform detailed observation and project documentation, and provide graphics support and development.

The selected candidate will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited post-secondary institution. The selected candidate must have good problem solving ability, excellent time management skills, and the ability to actively listen to others for understanding of their needs and situations; ability to read, speak and write English clearly is required. This position interacts with City staff, City residents, contractors and sub-contractors.

Required Qualifications

  • Three (3) months of experience in landscape architecture
  • Working knowledge and skills in CAD and standard design software as well as standard office software (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Attention to detail
  • Good Problem Solving Ability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Physically assessing project sites for design and construction QAQC review
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and function in an office environment
  • Prolonged concentration on PC monitor and keyboard use
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and their own transportation
