With our continued growth, we have an exciting new opportunity for a Civil Engineer Technician to join our Willmar Office. This position offers the opportunity for you to join a well established firm with a long history of superior service.

The Civil Engineer Technician  is responsible for performing engineering project design and drafting from working sketches and field data, under direct supervision of an engineer or senior technician. Duties also include routine testing, construction observation and construction documentation on municipal projects.

The primary duties of this position are performing routine engineering computations, researching engineer records, operate AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software to assist with preliminary design of municipal projects and construction plans and specifications. Primary duties also include construction observation, which may include but are not limited to, recording quantities and progress of construction activities, providing oversight of materials testing, traveling to work sites and other project related locations, interacting with contractors, sub-contractors, city staff and residents, fielding questions, and providing information on projects.

Must possess a high capacity for self-motivation and be able to apply technical and design knowledge to a variety of projects. In addition, must be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and staff from various agencies.

The selected candidate will have a minimum of an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or related field,  from an accredited post-secondary institution and three (3) years of progressive experience. Additional, related experience may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirement.

Preferred qualifications include experience in complex plan production, experience in construction contract administration, experience working with State and Federal Aid documentation requirements, and MnDOT Certifications in Aggregate Production, Grading and Base, Bituminous Street and Concrete Field. Additional skills that would be a plus include construction staking or field survey experience and design experience or training with Microstation, GIS or AutoDesk software.

Selected candidates must possess a valid drivers license and their own transportation. Travel may be required. Must have the ability to actively listen to others for understanding of their needs and situations; ability to read, speak and write English clearly is required. This position interacts with City staff, City residents, contractors and sub-contractors.
