Our growing firm has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Planner I.

The qualified Transportation Planner I provides project management and support to other Project Managers for services related to transportation planning; research, analysis and impacts; and environmental documents.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in transportation planning projects to successfully meet budget and schedule under the direction of senior transportation staff.
  • Under the guidance of the senior staff and as a member of the planning team, assist with transportation related planning studies including local and regional transportation plans, highway corridor studies and traffic impact studies.
  • Analyze trends, research data, and changes in laws, rules and regulations as directed.
  • Provide support to project managers in transportation planning, environmental studies, and municipal land use planning as assigned.
  • Complete technical project work assignments as assigned.
  • Travel periodically to work site and other project related locations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of company related information.

Education and Experience:

  • The selected candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, or close related field, from an accredited college or university
  • 3 months of experience in planning (internship or co-op counts)
  • Coursework in transportation planning and/or transportation studies
  • Currently registered as a Certified Planner having a certificate from the American   Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), or the ability to receive certification within 4 years, or when eligible, whichever is sooner.

  • Excellent time management and administrative skills (standard office equipment, filing procedures, and general organization).

  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Active listening and problem solving skills
  • Ability to understanding others’ perspectives
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and function in an office environment.
  • Prolonged concentration on PC monitor and keyboard use.
  • General knowledge and skills in GIS and its planning uses
  • General knowledge in related software (i.e. ARCView, MS Excel and Word)
  • Physically capable of accessing project sites for design and construction QA/QC review and environmental review.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Minimal travel is required.
