Bolton & Menk, Inc, a growing regional firm, has an immediate opening for an Aviation Project Manager.  The qualified Aviation Project Manager will be a registered engineer in Iowa (or can become registered in 6 months), will be based in one of our Iowa offices (Ames, Des Moines, Spencer), and work with aviation engineers and planners in multiple offices.  Shared location in any of our Iowa offices is an option.  This position will be responsible for leading and managing the design and construction management for aviation dedicated projects, which include extension and reconstruction of runways, taxiways and aprons; vertical infrastructure including hangars and AD buildings; NAVAIDS; fuel systems; etc.  Other duties include management of budget and schedule for assigned airport projects and business development and marketing activities for the aviation services group.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the work of other engineers and technicians; plans and organizes airport project assignments
  • Serve as a client contact to airport boards and airport clients as assigned
  • Review and/or prepare preliminary reports and feasibility studies
  • Develop, coordinate and review the final design and preparation of plans and specifications
  • Provides technical advice regarding design, construction or modification and repairs to clients, contractors and other staff members
  • Responsible for the management planning, scheduling and performance of multiple engineering projects and personnel, both design and construction
  • Read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and reports
  • Perform effective technical writing and correspondence
  • Perform business development activities (client needs, research, proposals, etc.)
  • Coordinate construction administration and monitor documentation requirements with field staff
  • Apply broad understanding of civil engineering and other fields to reach innovative and interdependent solutions
  • Assists with the training and development of professional and technical staff
  • Develops relationships with regulatory agencies
  • Travel periodically to work sites and other project related locations

Education and Experience:

  • The selected candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Six (6) years of progressive airport engineering experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of IA. (or can become registered in 6 months)

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven knowledge and skills in AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars related to airport design and construction
  • Knowledge of IADOT Aviation regulations and statutes
  • Must possess a high capacity for self-motivation
  • Ability to work within a team atmosphere
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills
  • Supervisory and staff mentoring experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including, but not limited to
    • Verbal and written communication skills
    • Active listening and negotiation skills
    • Political sensitivity
    • Ability to understanding others’ perspectives
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. Some travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Business development experience
  • Knowledge and skills in CAD 3D
  • Professional Engineer in neighboring states
